Kerry & Chris' Wedding, 25th August 2011, Anvil Hall, Gretna.

Last week we had a lovely trip upto the border to attend the wedding of our dear friends Kerry & Chris. This was my first visit to Gretna Green, famous for it's history steeped in wedding folklore, where young couples have been eloping to for centuries. The weather on the big day was fantastic, the venue, Anvil Hall, looked splendid, with it's blacksmiths anvil taking residence centre stage. This unusual addition is part of the tradition of Gretna Green weddings, with couples being married 'over the anvil' as they have been since the days of the blacksmith priests in the eighteenth century.

Although we were guests at the wedding, I always have a camera with me and this was no exception. I am a bit cautious about shooting weddings as a guest, as I would never want to be a hindrance to the official photographer. So, I set out to capture in candid and journalistic style, along with some detail shots, to complement the official photography.

Congratulations Kerry & Chris!

British Superbike Championship 2011 Rd. 9 - Cadwell Park

Bank holiday Monday started (very) early with a trip all the way down to Cadwell Park, in Lincolnshire, for round nine of the BSB championship 2011. Lots going on here, as well as the amazing racing action from the superbikes & the supporting races, we saw fly-pasts from a Spitfire & Lancaster Bomber, Motorcross & Trials displays, and of course a chance to see the new road bikes from the major manufacturers. Even the RAF parachute display team dropped in! (ahem). All in all it was a fantastic day, unfortunately tinged with a sombre tone as we heard the tragic news that rising Superstock 600 star Ben Gautrey succumbed to injuries sustained in a fall and collision at the bottom of the mountain section. I'm sure all who read this blog will join me in offering condolences to Ben's family.

Rest in peace Ben.

It's very easy, at a race meet, to take lots and lots of photos of the same bikes, going around the same corner from the same position & end up with thousands of files to have to sift through to find the keepers. Every time I take my camera to a meet I promise myself that I won't take too many shots. I always break that promise, maybe I should take my film camera with me next time! I've tried to select some images that show the whole of the day's events, & not just the racing. Here they are:

Pic of the Week: Asleep on the Job

This weeks shot is from the street photography series I took at the recent 1940s weekend in Lytham St. Anne's. He assures me he was just resting his eyes!

Lytham St. Anne's 1940's Weekend

Last weekend saw Lytham St. Anne's host it's 1940s weekend. The weather stayed nice & there was a good turnout. Lots of representatives from the allies, and the axis. Plenty of civilians dressed for the occasion too. Local businesses turned into wartime cafes etc. for the event, and there were sandbags galore along the high street. Quite an unusual sight & a prime location for a spot of street photography & impromptu portraits. Of course, there's the obligatory sepia toned shot!
